Animation

Animation is crosscurricular and enables students to create and express a combination audio, visual, emotional, contextual, philosophical, social and collaborative skills, feelings, emotions and understanding. It is a tool that can help build connections across subject areas and allow for artistic, creative, and relevant expression of the concepts learned.

Here are some examples of animation videos and games that exemplify the ways that animation can assist students in learning, help review material, encourage interaction, and create an opportunity for meaningful learning across a variety of subject areas. Curricular Connections

Animation can be used across grades and can be applied to a variety of curricula.

Language Arts and Foreign Language:

Creating animated videos in groups can help students discuss the details of a story with their peers, promote active long term memory to retain information, develop deeper understanding and retention of the stories read in class, and improve pronunciation through the recording and peer feedback on voice overs in the creation of a cartoon in a foreign language.

Fine Arts:

Techniques and theories learned in fine arts can be applied to the creation of cartoons to demonstrate understanding of content.

Science:

Scientific experiments can be demonstrated and outcomes summarized in a cartoon and shared with peers for feedback. Older students can create scientific lessons for younger students and also chapter summaries for themselves in preparation for a test.

Social Studies:

Geography and history can be recreated in action in order to achieve a better visual, oral and cultural understanding of the places and stories studied.

Mathematics:

Tutorials and practical real-world applications of mathematical concepts can be demonstrated with the help of an animated video.

Physical Education:

The rules of a sport can be summarized and demonstrated in an animated video. Correct technique can also be developed through visualization with the help of animated video in PE.
