Android Apps - The Next Big Thing in Education

There has been soaring demand for Android smartphones and tablets in the last few years and Android apps are now being seriously considered for their educational potential. Part of this new found enthusiasm comes from the fact that Android is an open source platform as against the iOS. This has encouraged many developing countries to manufacture android devices specifically for students to improve the existing educational standards. A case in point could be the Akash Tablets to be distributed to the school children in India at merely $25 per piece.

Another striking feature of these apps is that they can be used commonly  across a variety of devices such as smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, and googleglass.

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)

BYOD is being touted as the next revolution in school technology. It essentially means that the children are free to bring in a technology/device of their choice to the school and use it for academic purposes.

An implementation of BYOD necessitates the use of devices which run software which is common or compatible so as to allow seamless transfer of data and resources.

Since the Android platform is common across a variety of devices, it makes implementing BYOD convenient and fast.

Let us now take a look at the different ways in which Android Apps can be used to encourage student creativity in lesson development.
